Exhumation and new tests

Following a court order, her body was exhumed on Feb. 3 so investigators could perform a fresh autopsy, X-rays and further examinations aimed at finding signs of strangulation or defensive injuries.

Conflicting accounts

De Vitto, 51, told authorities he had hired Jankavski for sexual services, that they had used illicit substances, and that he called emergency responders after she stopped moving and tried to resuscitate her. Police noted marks on her back and an injury to her left eye; a friend said the facial wound may have resulted from an earlier slip. Prosecutors and Jankavski's family have disputed the forensic findings and sought further clarification.
