Stan Lee turned up in his very first Marvel cameo back in 1989 — but the on-set moment that fans remember had a surprising twist that left him irritated. Read on to discover the full story!

A debut in a dream

On May 7, 1989, Lee appeared in The Trial of the Incredible Hulk during a dream sequence. He played the foreman of a jury in a scene where David Banner, asleep in prison, imagines the Hulk erupting during testimony.

The lift that caused trouble

In the sequence the Hulk grips the jury box and lifts it about two feet, prompting the jurors to leap away in fright. The rise came from a hydraulic setup — Lou Ferrigno, who played the Hulk, was not physically hoisting the box.
