How BTS Music Helped a 20-Year-Old Through a Double Lung Transplant — and a Surprise Concert Gift

Off the list, then back on — and finally a transplant

Placed on the national lung transplant list in October 2022, Jennifer briefly improved and was removed, though she still needed oxygen. As her condition progressed, she rejoined the list in July 2024 and underwent a successful double lung transplant at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health on Oct. 31, 2024.

A dream ticket to her first BTS show

After recovering, the hospital surprised Jennifer with three tickets to BTS’s May 16 concert on Stanford’s campus — her first time seeing them live. She hopes to thank the band for music that sustained her, especially songs that spoke about persevering through pain. Jennifer, who lives in Indio, Calif., says the journey from diagnosis to the arena feels like achieving the goal she set as a teen.
