Martin and his late wife Nancy Dolman adopted three children: Katherine, Oliver and Henry. Nancy died in 2010 from ovarian cancer. In February 2026 the family announced that Katherine, 42, had died; they released a statement asking for privacy and confirming her name as Katherine Hartley Short. The LAPD said a Feb. 23 call from a Hollywood Hills home to the fire department was regarding a possible suicide.

Katherine’s life and work

Katherine was born Dec. 3, 1983. She earned a bachelor’s degree from NYU in 2006 and a master’s in social work from USC in 2010. She worked at UCLA’s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, the Camden Center and in private practice as a licensed clinical social worker, and was involved with the charity Bring Change 2 Mind.
