From Balmoral escort to the King’s right-hand man

Thompson first drew attention when he escorted the late Queen Elizabeth during a battalion review at Balmoral in August 2018. After the Queen’s death he moved into the role of King Charles’s personal equerry, with a promotion from major to lieutenant colonel. His helpful moments on the King’s coronation day in May 2023 even went viral.

In the public eye again

Recently Thompson accompanied the King and Queen Camilla on their U.S. trip, standing out at a British Embassy garden party on April 27 and later travelling to Bermuda, where he appeared in a white uniform on April 30. He and Olivia have also been seen chatting with Zara and Mike Tindall at Royal Ascot, and lifestyle icon Martha Stewart praised him after meeting him at a King’s Trust Gala.
